In a game that resembled a beer league softball game, the teams combined for 47 runs, 53 hits and 79 baserunners. And for most of the night, it looked as though the Beavers would enjoy an outright victory.
They finished with a school-record 28 hits, scored a season-high 22 runs and more or less had UCLA’s success the entire game. Justin Boyd finished with a school-high six hits and four runs scored, Garrett Forrester hit two home runs and had six RBIs, and Gavin Logan had five hits and five RBIs.
When TJ Wheeler hit a game-tying, two-run single in the top of the ninth, the Beavers led 21-12 and looked forward to their championship date against Stanford.

The Bruins scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth as relievers DJ Carpenter, Victor Quinn and closer Ryan Braun grabbed the lead in impressive fashion with four hits, three walks and one hit. UCLA completed the comeback with one out when Holmen drove in Kenny Oyama with the first pitch.
The Beavers’ home plate won and Forrester had a chance to end the threat, but his throw went left to the first base side of the plate, causing Logan to hit the ball and fly to third base. side. Oyama won the toss and to make matters worse, Logan seems to have either pulled his groin or hurt his leg on the play and had to leave the game.
Despite the meltdown, Oregon State was able to win in the 10th after Matthew Gretler doubled and Boyd drove in a single up the middle to give the Beavers a 22-21 lead.

But Brown could not stop the lead. He gave up a leadoff single to Michael Curiale, a double to Ethan Gurson, walked Kyle Carros on purpose to load the bases, then gave up the tying run. After an interception, Tommy Beres hit a three-run homer to left field and the Bruins hit it at home.
All this lasted five hours and 44 minutes. And as a result, the teams will play again on Saturday night. The first performance is at 7:40.

Oregon State Baseball: Do They Have An Achilles Heel?
OKLAHOMA CITY. The Pac-12 filled nearly half of the slots in this year’s Women’s College World Series, but three teams from the Conference of Champions didn’t fare too well on opening day. Although the only team selected to advance to the WCWS was the no. 5 UCLA, all three teams were defeated and placed in the losers bracket on the first day. That sets up a rematch between Arizona and Oregon State for day two.
Last season, both teams that reached the championship series lost on the first day. This season, things get tougher for teams that immediately fall into the relegation zone. Previously, these teams were eliminated on the second day, while the group winners played to see who else would be sent to the knockout games. In 2022, the losers will have to come back and play again on the second day.
That puts the unseeded Wildcats and unseeded Beavers against elimination on just the second day of play. This is a rematch of two teams that met in Corvallis in early April. The Beavers took two of three in that series, winning two close games before being swept by Arizona on the final day of the series.

However, neither team is the same as it was two months ago. At the time, Arizona was still trying to combine offense, defense and pitching. This is about the postseason. Even in a loss to Oklahoma State on the opening day of the WCWS, the Wildcats were able to get runners on with regularity against a pitcher with a 0.83 WHIP. In the Han circle, Bowen was able to work through the jams before giving up a nice home run in the sixth inning in a 4-2 loss.
Beavers face another problem. Fifth-grader Maria Mason did not participate in the opening game. Oregon State went with freshman Sarah Gendiges. The reason for Mason’s absence is unknown to Beavers officials, who declined to say whether it was an illness, injury or something off the field.
“The big elephant in the room,” Beavers head coach Laura Berg said. “No, I can’t say why he’s not here. It’s just not available right now. I hope we will receive it tomorrow. He was unable to come today due to unfortunate circumstances beyond his control. “

That leaves open the possibility that Arizona will face Mason on Friday night. However, it doesn’t make much of a difference. Mazon and Haendiges are among the top three in ERA in the Pac-12. Hendiges was second with a 1.53 and Mason was third with a 1.60 ERA.
In April, Arizona faced Haendiges twice and Mason once. In the first game against the Haendiges, they had four hits. There were also several questionable errors flagged by the Corvallis official all week — six by the Beavers’ defense in three games — so the Wildcats had more luck against the Beavers’ pitchers than the official box showed.
Oregon State’s offense relied heavily on the sac fly to get its runs in this game. The Beavers also had just four hits, but were able to score four runs in a 4-1 win.

In the second game against Mason, the Wildcats had just one official hit. Charlize Palacios got Arizona on the board with a solo home run. The Beavers scored three runs on seven hits.
The Wildcats finally broke through in the final game of the series when they faced the Haendiges for the second time. While the scorer blamed the Beavers defense for four turnovers, Arizona made good contact with the ball against the rookie. Despite the runs scored, the Wildcats still had nine hits. They scored in four of five innings in the run-shortened game and cruised to a 9-1 victory.
